Ça part de presque rien : d’abord une curiosité pour les sons, ensuite l’acquisition, à prime abord anodine, d’un enregistreur portatif, puis le surgissement d’une question : qu’est-ce que je veux enregistrer? Enfin, une réponse : Je veux enregistrer l’eau. Ainsi commence l’exploration de Lina Choi qui, au gré de résidences et de performances artistiques, entame la création de paysages sonores. Ceux-ci se dessinent à travers la pluie qui s’abat, les rivières qui s’écoulent, et cherchent à percer le mystère de l’apaisement que l’eau et ses mélodies provoquent chez nous.
Dans le cadre de son passage à l’Écart, l’artiste se questionne sur l’origine de cette fascination envers les eaux, qu’elle lie à l’expérience universelle, mais sans mémoire, du vécu prénatal. Par la confection d’une structure reproduisant la forme de l’utérus dans laquelle seront diffusés les sons capturés auprès de cours d’eau environnants, Lina Choi tente de reproduire cet univers intime qui précède le contact avec le monde extérieur, et invite le public à y plonger. Par cette superposition des eaux maternelles et des eaux naturelles dans lesquelles on baigne quotidiennement, l’artiste espère éveiller la discussion et recueillir les témoignages pour éclairer notre rapport à l’eau et rétablir le lien qui nous unit à elle.

It all started from almost nothing: first a curiosity about sounds, then the acquisition, at first sight innocuous, of a portable recorder, then the emergence of a question: what do I want to record? Finally, an answer: I want to record water. Thus begins Lina Choi’s exploration, as she begins to create soundscapes through residencies and artistic performances. These take shape through falling rain, flowing rivers, and seek to unravel the mystery of the soothing effect that water and its melodies have on us.
During her stay at l’Écart, the artist explores the origins of this fascination with water, which she links to the universal, yet memory-less, experience of prenatal life. By creating a structure reproducing the shape of the womb, in which sounds captured from nearby waterways will be broadcast, Lina Choi attempts to reproduce this intimate universe that precedes contact with the outside world, and invites the public to plunge into it. Through this superimposition of maternal waters and the natural waters in which we bathe daily, the artist hopes to awaken discussion and gather testimonies to shed light on our relationship with water and re-establish the bond that unites us to it.
